Yoga at the Peak: Capturing Eli Amaya’s Mount Rubidoux Class
Mount Rubidoux was alive with energy as the Inland Empire Girls Hiking Club came together to celebrate International Women’s Day. Nearly 100 women arrived early in the morning, ready to take on the three-mile hike. Some were seasoned hikers, comfortable on the trail, while others were stepping into the experience for the first time. No matter their background, everyone shared the same excitement and sense of empowerment.
At the summit, the reward was more than just the breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains and the crisp blue sky stretching endlessly above. Eli Amaya, a dedicated yoga teacher and mental health specialist, led a powerful yoga session for those who wanted to embrace the moment even further. Women joined her, unrolling their mats and grounding themselves under the open sky.
Eli’s approach to yoga is about more than just movement. She believes in the deep connection between mind and body, using yoga as a tool for healing, confidence, and self-discovery. To her, any transformation someone seeks—whether physical, emotional, or mental—is already inside them. Yoga simply helps bring it to the surface. Her words resonated with the group, adding an extra layer of meaning to the practice.
Photographing this experience was something truly special. The natural beauty of Mount Rubidoux provided a stunning backdrop, from the vast sky to the towering cross at the peak. The bright sun created its own challenges, casting sharp light across the landscape, but with the right angles and adjustments, I was able to capture the energy and emotion of the morning. The women stood strong and confident against the landscape, their movements flowing with a mix of power and grace.
Eli’s presence brought a sense of calm and strength to the session. She guided the group with intention, reminding them to embrace both stillness and movement, to breathe deeply, and to honor themselves. There was something incredible about seeing women come together, supporting one another, and celebrating not just the day but everything they had accomplished in their own lives.
Eli teaches at M Power Yoga Studio, leads community events, and works with individuals one-on-one to help them build confidence and find balance. She is also preparing to open Ayama Yoga Studio in Summer 2025, where she will continue her mission of empowering others through yoga and mindfulness.
