Behind the Scenes: Boudoir with Ana
Two Weeks ago, we had the pleasure of working with the talented model Ana on a boudoir-themed photoshoot set in a chic studio in Los Angeles. With soft lighting, powerful poses, and a relaxed vibe, the shoot blended professionalism with just the right amount of fun, capturing Ana’s confidence, expertise and personality.
Setting the Scene
The studio, set up with moody tones and carefully selected light modifiers, was ideal for a boudoir session, creating a soft yet impactful backdrop that emphasized both detail and atmosphere. To achieve this, we relied on three carefully chosen light sources—a Flashpoint AD600 Pro paired with a 60-inch octo softbox as our main light, complemented by a 7-inch reflector and a 12x36-inch strip box to highlight Ana's form with dimension and depth.

The Gear and Setup
For this shoot, we used the Sony A7RIV paired with a versatile 24-70mm GM lens, which allowed us to capture the intricacies of boudoir photography up close while also creating beautifully framed wider shots. The lens paired perfectly with the softbox, reflector, and strip box combination, delivering the precise control we needed to accentuate the softness and texture so important to boudoir imagery.
The lighting arrangement provided a gentle falloff and subtle highlights, ideal for creating that intimate and cinematic feel essential to boudoir photography.

Working with Ana: Posing and Direction
Ana, a seasoned model, brought her own poses and creativity to the shoot, moving fluidly from one look to the next. Her natural sense of movement and body language made every shot visually stunning, and she was always open to input from me and my assistants. This collaborative dynamic allowed us to refine the poses to best suit the lighting and mood, adding elegance to every frame.
Ana used her experience to help capture the lighting coming in from the large windows of the studio.
Atmosphere: Professionalism Meets Fun
Though we were focused on getting every detail right, the atmosphere remained relaxed and fun. With a playlist setting the tone in the background, Ana’s professionalism shone through, but she was just as happy to share in laughs and enjoy the music as we worked. The blend of structure and spontaneity kept the energy high and helped bring out Ana’s natural charisma in each shot.
The Final Touch: Post-Production
After a successful session, I took to Photoshop to add the finishing touches. Using dodge and burn techniques, I enhanced the skin tones, added dimension, and created depth to match the aesthetic we envisioned in the studio. This careful post-production work ensured that each image retained its natural quality while adding polish that elevated the final images.
Final Thoughts
This boudoir session with Ana was a fantastic blend of technical precision and artistry. Working with an experienced model like Ana allowed us to push creative boundaries, and the combination of careful lighting, a fun atmosphere, and thoughtful post-production gave us a final set of images we’re thrilled to share.
